Cinema

The  Functioning of Cinema Theatres all over Tamil  Nadu state  is  monitored based on the following Acts and Rules.

Tamil Nadu Cinema (Regulation) Act 1955 - to provide for the regulation and of exhibitions by means of cinematographs in the state of Tamil Nadu. Based on this Act, no person shall give an exhibition by means of a cinematograph elsewhere than in a place licensed under this act.

The Tamil Nadu cinemas Regulation Rule 1957 - shall apply to all the existing Cinema premises in the state of Tamil Nadu and these which come into existence after the publication of these rules in the Fort ST George Gazette.

Types of Theatre

There are four kinds of theatres as follows:

  1. Permanent Theatre.
  2. Semi-Permanent Theatre.
  3. Touring Talkies.
  4. Open Air Theatre.

Licensing Authority

The Authority having power to grant licenses shall be the The District Collector. (Section.4)

Two Type of Process

  1. Approval of Location of Permanent Cinemas - for Obtaining NOC (Form-B) from The District Collector for construction of Cinema theatre in a location.
  2. Approval of Building Constructed and Issue of License (Form-C) by The District

Establishment/ Construction of New Cinema Theatre – Approval of Location of Permanent Cinemas

Application to Licensing Authority by an Applicant – (FORM-A) (Annexure-1)
