<aside> 💡 Possession of Arms are covered under The Arms Act 1959 and Arms rules  2016. No Person shall possess, carry, sell or transfer a Fire Arm without a valid license and permission as per the above acts and rules. Licenses are issued to possess, carry, sell, transfer, transport firearm or other weapon for bonafide purpose, i.e.,  for  self protection, crop protection, participating in sports, target practice, dealers, repairing the weapon etc.,  No License is granted for Hunting purpose.  The  District  Magistrate/The  District  Collector  is  the  Licensing  and renewing authority in respect of permissible weapons as mentioned in Rule No 5 and Schedule II of Arms Rules 2016

Prohibited & Restricted Weapons

1. Prohibited arms **** Category I(a)

(i)       Prohibited arms is defined as per section 2(1)(i) of the Arms Act 1959.

(i)      “fire-arms” so designed or adapted that, if pressure is applied to the trigger, missiles continue to be discharged until pressure is removed from the trigger or the magazine containing the missiles is empty. or

(ii)     weapons of any description designed or adapted for the discharge of any noxious liquid, gas or other such things, and includes artillery,  anti- aircraft  and  anti-tank fire-arms and such other arms as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify to be prohibited arms

(ii)      Items  configured  for  military use

(iii)     Light weapons

(iv)     Small arms including automatic and selective fire  other  than those defined in category I(b), I(c) and III

3. Restricted arms Category I(b)

(i)  Semi-automatic fire-arms which  cannot  be   converted   into   automatic fire-arms and other than those defined in category III(a), III(c) and III(d)

(ii) Smooth bore guns having barrel  of less than 20 inches in length

(iii) Centre fire rifles of any barrel length (semi-automatic)

(iv)  Electronic  disabling devices  having firing  range  of  more  than  fifteen feet
